Cameo Turret includes Rachael and Kip Braunstadter , a married couple, both on vocals and guitar, and Mike Schmidt on drums. The band originated, sans the name, in 1998 with Rachael and Kip playing together in Wyoming. After spending some time in Montana, the couple came to the Champaign-Urbana area, with Mike being added to the line-up shortly after.

The bands haunting sound is hard to classify. Their influences, however, give way to some understanding. They typically list alt-country bands, female singer-songwriters, and even one of the most quintessential indie/emo bands, Sunny Day Real Estate. These tastes seem to all be shared by the band, but to varying degrees depending on the member.
